Chapter 01
Kitchen Remodel from countertops to cabinets
A Kitchen Remodel can mean a refresh or a full tear-out, and the useful first question is which one. A refresh keeps the layout and changes what people see and touch: new counters, cabinets painted or replaced, a backsplash, a faucet, fresh hardware. A full remodel moves things, and moving things is what drives the sequence of the whole job.
Plenty of Columbus kitchens sit in 1920s to 1950s houses where the walls are plaster and no corner is truly square. That shapes every step. Cabinets get fitted to the room, not to the drawing, and filler strips and scribe cuts do the work of making a straight cabinet line look intended.

Cabinet installation and custom woodwork
Cabinets start from a level reference line and the highest point of the floor. Base cabinets are shimmed to level, fastened to each other, then screwed through the back rail into studs. Wall cabinets carry real weight once they are loaded with dishes, so the screws go into framing, never into drywall alone.
Custom woodwork fills the gaps a boxed cabinet leaves behind: a filler panel against a crooked wall, trim to close the gap at the ceiling, a toe kick scribed to a floor that dips toward the old sink. That finish carpentry is what makes a run of cabinets read as built in.
Chapter 03
Backsplash, fixtures and finishing
Countertop measurements come off the installed cabinets, not the plan, so counters go in after the boxes are set and level. The backsplash follows, tiled down to the counter with a caulk joint along the bottom and in the corners, because the counter and the wall move at different rates through a Central Ohio year.
Then the fittings: faucet and sprayer, the garbage disposal, outlets and cover plates at the backsplash, and paint last, once the dust is down. A final walk-through list gets ticked off before the job is closed.

Cabinets first, counters second, backsplash last
Each trade waits on the one before it. Write the job in that order and nobody works around a half-finished wall.
